About Yuet Wah
Rooted in Warmth,
Built for Belonging
Since our founding, Yuet Wah has offered seniors in Hong Kong a place where daily life unfolds at its own unhurried pace — with good meals, familiar company, and attentive care close at hand.
Back to HomeHow Yuet Wah Came to Be
The idea for Yuet Wah grew from a simple observation: too many older people in Hong Kong spend their later years in settings that feel clinical rather than comfortable — surrounded by procedures rather than people. The founders, a group of social workers and community organisers who had spent years working in Tuen Mun's older neighbourhoods, wanted something different.
They envisioned a residence modelled on the feeling of a shared household: a table that is always set, a courtyard that catches the morning sun, and neighbours who know your name. Yuet Wah — meaning "glowing harmony" — opened its doors on Castle Peak Road with that spirit in mind.
Over the years, residents have shaped the place as much as the staff have. The afternoon tea sitting began because a few residents started gathering informally after lunch; it became a fixture. The kitchen adjusts its menus because residents tell the cooks what they grew up eating. Nothing about daily life here is fixed by a manual — it is shaped by the people who live it.
Our Mission
To offer seniors a daily life that feels genuinely their own — with meals prepared thoughtfully, outdoor spaces that invite quiet mornings, and a community that forms naturally around shared tables and shaded paths.
Our Values
- Dignity in every daily interaction
- Community over institution
- Seasonal, home-style nourishment
- Transparency with residents and families
- Respect for personal pace and preference
The People Behind Yuet Wah
A small, dedicated team who share a belief that daily care is as much about presence as it is about tasks.
Wong Lai-Ying
Residence Manager
Lai-Ying joined Yuet Wah from a background in community social work in Tuen Mun. She oversees daily operations and knows every resident's routine and preference by name.
Chan Ho-Fung
Head of Kitchen
Ho-Fung trained in Cantonese home cooking and has spent fifteen years cooking for older adults. He personally notes each resident's tastes and adjusts each week's menu accordingly.
Leung Mei-Kwan
Resident Liaison
Mei-Kwan is the first face new residents meet. She helps families with the settling-in process and remains the main point of contact for day-to-day requests and conversations.
Our Standards of Care
Every aspect of life at Yuet Wah is shaped by clear, consistent commitments — to residents, to families, and to the community around us.
Safe and Maintained Premises
The residence undergoes scheduled safety reviews covering fire systems, walkway surfaces, handrail integrity, and lighting levels to meet Hong Kong Buildings Department standards.
Food Hygiene Compliance
Our kitchen operates under the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department's guidelines. Menus are reviewed seasonally to ensure nutritional balance appropriate for older adults.
Trained and Vetted Staff
All staff members are background-checked and trained in senior living standards before their first day. Ongoing development reflects current community care practices in Hong Kong.
Resident Privacy
Personal information is held in accordance with Hong Kong's Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. Resident details are shared only with authorised family contacts or with the resident's own consent.
Regular Family Communication
Families receive regular updates on their relative's wellbeing. Our resident liaison is available by phone and message during office hours for any questions or requests.
Maintained Outdoor Spaces
Gardens and courtyards are tended weekly by a horticultural team. Shading, seating, and path surfaces are checked each season to ensure comfort and ease of movement for all residents.
Senior Living in Tuen Mun — Our Approach
Choosing a residential arrangement for an older family member is rarely a simple decision. At Yuet Wah, we think the most helpful thing we can offer is clarity — about what we provide, how we work, and who we are. Our residence in Tuen Mun is structured as a lifestyle community, not a nursing facility. We do not provide medical services; what we offer is the kind of daily support that makes ordinary life manageable and pleasant.
This includes three home-cooked meals a day prepared from seasonal Cantonese ingredients, an afternoon gathering over dim sum and tea, and access to landscaped gardens and shaded courtyard spaces that encourage gentle outdoor time. For residents who take the Full Comfort Residence package, housekeeping, fresh linen, laundry, and errand assistance are part of the arrangement — handled quietly and consistently so that residents do not need to think about them.
Yuet Wah draws residents from across the New Territories and from families in Kowloon and Hong Kong Island whose parents or grandparents prefer a Tuen Mun setting — often one they have lived near for much of their lives. Castle Peak Road is well served by public transport, and the surrounding neighbourhood offers markets, clinics, and community facilities that residents can reach independently or with light assistance.
We think of ourselves as a medium-sized household rather than an institution. The number of residents we accommodate remains intentionally limited so that staff can know each person rather than manage a roster. Small details — the way a resident takes their tea, the time of morning they prefer to walk, the topic they most enjoy in conversation — are noticed and remembered here.
